I see that one can have associated accounts, within profile settings, which are either facebook, google or twitter. Is there anyway to add instagram and/or linkedIn?

The purpose of associated accounts is authentication for logging in, and Instagram or LinkedIn are not supported.
Do I understand correctly that you’d like to point visitors to your social media profiles? If so, you can list them in the “About me” section.
