Lights and IES Profiles

Good morning all,

When using IES profiles, does the type of light matter or does the IRS profile supersede the light type?

Thank you
Jen

The type matters. You can view the IES profile as an additional information for the base light source: point or spot. It adjusts the strength of the emission depending on the direction, but it doesn’t change which directions the light source emits light in. So, for spot lights it can make the light stronger or weaker in particular directions (including reducing the strength to 0), but it cannot make a spot light emit light outside of the base spot beam.

In majority of the cases point light should be used as the base light source.

Thanks for the clarification.
